I just finished this skirt and top. I really made them! I haven't been extremely successful with making clothing before but these turned out pretty good. I know it's cheesy but it seems more inspiring to put a name to clothing so I'm calling this my "Grapefruit Honedew " outfit. I am going to wear it to the symphony next weekend.

Abby!!!! The Vogue Pattern is EASY! Or at least it says so on the pattern. It would be easier than the jacket. OK for the jacket, follow the pattern exactly!!! But do not cut fabric for the collar. When it comes time to insert a collar you'll need to cut bias strips for it. Also to make it stand up you need to use sew-in interfacing, not fusible otherwise it will really be bad. For the strips you'll need to cut them twice as wide plus add a seam allowance to both sides of this. So if you want the stand-up length to be 2" then you would cut the strip to be 5 1/2" so you can fold over the strip and have enough fabric for the seam allowance. Hope that's clear as mud. Then you'll need to calculate how much you would need. My best guess is maybe 3-4 strips sewn together that are each 36-50" long depending on if you have 45 or 60" fabric. Then sew it on. The jacket only takes 1 yard of fabric if you can believe that. You really should make it with me! What fun!
Ha ha ha! Forgot to add a few things. For the collar it is gathered. For some reason I just thought that you would know this. So you need to gather the collar or ruffle edge before you put it on the body of the jacket. Also, putting on the ruffle comes before you sew in any of the lining. By the way that dress is "Very Easy Vogue." Its definitely worth a try. The jacket won't be that easy. Jackets are hard - probably one of the hardest things to make! Be careful. I HIGHLY recommend making a muslin test before you actually start cutting up fabric you paid alot for.
